Bethard Review

Having only been established since 2014 in Malta, Bethard are one of the newest operators on the market but they are making great strides in improving upon their early reputation.

This firm may be new, but the owners of the brand are already well established in the betting niche with other labels such as norgevegas.com, suomivegas.com and sverigecasino.com under their umbrella for the Nordic markets and now they are branching out.

The by now well established Malta Gaming Authority, used by many large casinos and sportsbooks, gives Bethard its license although they also have a permit in Curacao.

Bethard Welcome Bonus

In terms of the overall amount you can claim, Bethard’s welcome bonus is pretty decent at £50 and in fact more than challenges some of the better established names out there such as Ladbrokes and William Hill!

Not all is quite as it seems however. Bethard will give you actually quite a paltry £5 for every £100 you wager in your first week. You can do this ten times, hence their ability to advertise a welcome bonus of up to £50, but frankly how many of us will join a little-known sportsbook then wager £500 in a week?

Your £5 bonus, such as it is, is credited instantly upon betting a total of £100 in the Sportsbook, Casino or Live Casino and is valid for the first seven days only. You will also need to deposit an initial £20 minimum to get things going, regardless of how much you bet at first.

Bethard Interface
About Bethard

Bethard say they are set on becoming a world leader in the online Sportsbook field while at the same time offering a state of the art technical platform for their customers. There can be no doubting their ambition, but even for a new(ish) firm they have some things to fix instantly if they want to attract new customers, especially from the UK.

Bethard say they are willing to take smart and calculated risks and if that is the case, then their bonus structure needs to be changed immediately. Their mission for now is to give players the best gaming experience possible and it’s true they’ve developed a nice platform on which to play.

The firm, run by CEO & founder Erik Skarp, gained its license in Curacao first in 2015 before claiming the Maltese license the following year. As of 2018 Bethard has managed to get Zlatan Ibrahimovic on board as brand ambassador but with this the firm is in danger of going down the same route as Betway – too much money going into sponsorship for brand identity while forgetting to give enough to the players in terms of bonuses who can easily jump ship.

Bethard UK Betting Offers

Sports offers are a little thin on the ground in truth with only the now common cash out facility available alongside the 30% combo booster. The combo booster works by placing a pre-match accumulator or combo bet and if this wins, your returns are boosted by up to 30%!

This is a pretty decent offer on the face of it as most football fans for example will wager in multiples. The vast majority of football leagues are included in the promotion but one thing to look out for, as always, is the fact that not everyone gets 30%. Should your accumulator win, you’ll get the following bonus depending on the number of legs in your bet:

5-folds – 7%
6-folds – 10%
7-folds – 15%
8-folds – 20%
9-folds – 25%
10-folds+ – 30%

Much like with the welcome bonus then, there is a little smoke and mirrors going on here. Risking a 6-fold just to get 10% is not an offer that will entice new players in, it will simply be regarded as a nice bonus for those already playing.

Best Odds Guaranteed

It really pains us to be on the negative again, but this is another area Bethard are failing in with no Best Odds Guaranteed given on horse racing. This sort of offer is now a staple with the vast majority of bookmakers involved.

BOG means no significant change in the technology, it’s simply something the firm offers to all clients meaning if they take the price on a horse and the SP is bigger, they’ll be paid at the bigger price.

Betting Markets Offered

Rather typically football is a big concentration of the firm with bettors in their origin of Scandinavia, one of their biggest markets the Netherlands and of course now UK punters all ploughing in on the sport. There’s more than just football on offer though with markets available on:

  • Basketball
  • American football
  • Tennis
  • Baseball
  • Ice hockey
  • Horse racing
  • Handball
  • Rugby league
  • Golf
  • Snooker/pool
  • Motor racing
  • Darts
  • Cycling
  • Speedway
  • Volleyball
  • Boxing
  • Table tennis
  • Cricket

Within this there are plenty of markets to choose from; football fans in particular are looked after with anything up to a superb 130 markets available on a single game. Odds are fair within these markets too which is one core area Bethard have definitely got right.

Bethard In-Play Betting

Near the top left of the main screen at Bethard you’ll see the yellow ‘Live Betting’ button. Click on this and you’ll find an array of sports to bet on in-play including football, basketball, volleyball, snooker, cricket and tons of tennis matches.

There can be 30 or so in-play markets offered up during a live football match which is enough to keep you going with odds changing constantly.

Bethard In Play
Streaming Availability

Despite the fact that we know this involves a cost for licensing etc, what separates a top online sportsbook from a pretender these days is the availability of live streaming on things such as football, horse racing and tennis.

Unfortunately Bethard does not offer live streaming at the moment and it is very much hoped they address this as soon as possible. Live in-play betting is fine, but even on the move more and more punters wish to see the sport they’ve bet on, sometimes even for a while before having a bet which is why streaming is so important.

Bethard Cash-Out

As mentioned above Bethard does offer cash-out on its bets. The trend for more and punters to cut and run means most online sportsbooks are offering this service and to be fair it has proved more than useful for many! Cashing out at Bethard is made very easy; just place your bet as normal live or pre-match, then during the event click on ‘my bets’ and then hit ‘cash out’. Simple!

Bethard App

The Bethard app is available to download with both iOS and Android devices though remember the same services can be accessed via browsers on all smartphones and tablets.

Mostly what you see on the main site can also be accessed on the mobile versions too which is positive, though feedback on the app from more regular users has not been too encouraging to date.

The apps on both iOS and Android are easy to navigate around and have a slick colour scheme however the major problem so far has been with the app freezing so it seems there are more bugs to fix before this is the finished article.

  • The same good selection of betting markets as the main site
  • Easy to use format
  • Quick to navigate around
  • Live betting available

  • Access restricted in a lot of territories
  • Lack of extra bonus for app/mobile customers
  • No live streaming on app
  • App freezes regularly

What Payment Methods are available?

Bethard is clearly working to increase all of its products and services and while the major debit and credit card options are supported, more could be added. For now though, here is their full list:

Payment MethodDeposit TimeWithdrawal TimeMinimum Deposit / WithdrawalMaximum Deposit / Withdrawal
Visa/Maestro debitInstant2-5 days£10 / NA£7,500 / NA
Visa/MasterCard creditInstant2-5 days£10 / NA£7,500 / NA
TrustlyInstant2-5 days£10 / NA£7,500 / NA
SofortInstant2-5 days£10 / NA£500 / NA

Bethard as you can see are coy on their withdrawals; how much is your maximum, what other options you can use etc. This is never a great sign, even if it is simply the fact they don’t advertise it widely but we would recommend you get in touch with them via live chat (at the bottom of their website) and iron this out before you deposit and make a bet.
