Bets of the Week (20th – 26th August)

Manchester United – Tottenham Hotspur (KO 14:00 – Sky Sports 1)

Well, what a stuttering start to the season it has been for Mourinho’s side. After an OK performance at home against Leicester City, Manchester United disappointed away at Brighton by being beaten 3-1. At times they were outplayed by Chris Hughton’s side and Jose Mourinho will have been very worried from a defensive standpoint what he witnessed in the first half. No surprise he wanted to add at least one new centre back in the summer transfer window. But more importantly the question should be: is this team still playing for their manager? Looking at their body language this not only looks like a squad in disarray with their manager, there seems to be no fighting mentality for each other or for the famous shirt worn by legends of the game such as Paul Scholes, Roy Keane and Cristiano Ronaldo.

They will need to get their act together soon, if not for their manager then for the fans and especially before their tough home game against Spurs on Monday. Tottenham have started the season in great form despite the fact that they are still missing several key players at full fitness. They won their opening game of the season away at Newcastle and followed up with a 3-1 win on the weekend against Fulham. Their team, as proven last season, has potentials goals coming from everywhere and they will pose a very attacking threat against United. In the last three games in all competitions Man Utd have the upper hand with two wins, however we feel that Spurs will pour more misery onto Mourinho on Monday night. Our first recommended betting tip is the draw at Old Trafford (12/5). Our correct goal score prediction is 1-1 (5/1).

Recommended Betting Tips

1. Draw (12/5)
2. Correct score: 1-1 (5/1)

Juventus FC – Lazio Roma (KO 17:00, Saturday)

Juventus got off to a winning start away against Chievo, as was expected from last year’s champions. It did not go as smoothly as they would’ve expected with two late goals saving their blushes on the opening weekend of the Serie A. Their marquee signing Cristiano Ronaldo did not score on his debut and will be itching to start his goalscoring spree for his new club this weekend. They face a Lazio side who lost their first game of the season at home against Napoli FC but will still provide one of the sterner tests in the domestic league.

Simone Inzaghi’s men enjoyed a formidable away record last season, losing fewer matches away from home than they did in their own stadium. However, the bookies do not fancy them to win with an away win priced at 8/1. This could be because Juventus only lost two games in the league last season which makes them short price favourites to win this game. Both teams have full squads to their disposal and it should be an entertaining game on Saturday afternoon. We can expect goals from both sides as Lazio scored in 23 of 24 away game (highest scoring team) in the Serie A and Juve have not failed to score in their last 19 encounters with Lazio. This is why we fancy plenty of goals to happen in the game with both teams having goalscoring threats in their teams. Our main recommended betting tip for the game is both teams to score which we think is good value (evens). Our second bet is for Juventus to win & Both Teams to Score (2/1).

Recommended Betting Tips

1. Both Teams To Score 1/1
2. Juventus Win & BTTS 2/1

York Ebor Festival – Horse Racing Tips (ITV 13:00 – 24-25th August)

It has been a great week of racing so far at the York Festival. The Knavesmire is a proven specialist course and has delivered some surprise results with a couple of shorter favourites beaten so far. Today was a great occasion for horse racing purist by seeing Mark Johnston claiming an all time record breaking 4,194th career win in Britain with his horse Poet’s Society winning under Frankie Dettori at BIG price (20/1). He claimed the Clipper Logistics Handicap by a neck from joint-favourite Kynren (5/1).

Trainer William Haggas won the Darley Yorkshire Oaks at York on his birthday with a fantastic run by Sea of Class under James Doyle. The daughter of the legendary Sea The Stars has now shot up to be favourite for the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe. Our pick Coronet came second with a strong run but it was obvious that Sea of Class was head and shoulders above the opponents in today’s race and will be a force to be reckoned with.

Tomorrow the main Group 1 race of the day is the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes with the hot favourite Battaash featuring for Charlie Hills. Battaash won the King George in big style at Goodwood and his trainer has said that it’s all about keeping him calm to get the best out of him. He ended fourth last year at York after being a slow starter during the race leaving him with too much to do at the end. If Jim Crowley has him switched on from the start it is very hard to see him get beat (4/6). Mr Lupton could run a big race with proven course form for Course & Distance at York and was not disgraced in fourth behind Battaash last time out at Goodwood, he is our value pick at 33-1 each way.

In the SkyBet Ebor Handicap on Saturday it seems to be a big open race which can be tough to call (handicap). Current favourite is Irish trainer Willie Mullins’ Stratum (7/2), beating Kloud gate at Newbury last time out and finishing fourth at Ascot in June behind Lagostovegas and is one of the few horses to win in this class. We believe the favourite has a strong chance in the hand of Willie Mullins but the price is not appealing enough for us. Instead John Gosden’s Weekender could look like the pick on the bunch under Frankie Dettori. Weekender has won twice at York in three races (two wins and one place) and has also won in this class. At odds of 14/1 this looks a great each-way bet.

Recommended Betting Tips

1. Friday 24th August: Battaash 4/6 & Mr Lupton 33/1 EW
2. Saturday 25th August: Weekender 14/1 EW
