World Cup Betting

So… Here we are already, the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup. Hasn’t it just flown past? Football fans from around the world have been truly spoilt by this year’s amazing tournament. From Germany going out in the group stages to Messi & Ronaldo both going out in the last 16 and once again failing to add this coveted trophy to their collection. We are left with England, Belgium, France and Croatia to fight it out between now and Sunday. Read our World Cup betting tips & predictions below.

Croatia vs England betting tips

Not many people would have chosen these two countries to be competing for a place in the World Cup final before the tournament. However, both have been consistently solid along the way to semi-finals with Croatia surviving two penalty shoot-outs, one against tournament host Russia. England had an easy group to qualify from which allowed the players to settle confidently and gain confidence in their opening games. This confidence shone through when they beat Colombia on PENALTIES, ending a hoodoo that dated back to 1990. Both teams are deservedly competing it for the 2018 World Cup final,  with Croatia seeking to achieve this for the first time in their history.

Croatia have experienced the more taxing games with both their knockout games going to extra-time and penalties. This will surely be felt by their squad with only a short recovery period between the England game on Wednesday. England’s quarter final against Sweden felt comfortable for the Three Lions, who have been proven to be a lethal threat from set pieces and crosses (5 set-pieces scored). This is something that Croatia might fear dealing with as they have conceded two goals from set pieces so far. Harry Kane and Harry Maguire’s presence is a dangerous prospect for any team to deal with, backing either to score by header looks a decent wager!

We feel that this is a very even game, Croatia have a wealth of experience from some top-level players whilst England are a young, hungry and ambitious team. This looks like another game that the Croatians will drag into extra-time where their fatigue will settle in and England’s younger players such as Rashford can come on and make a real difference. England to win in extra time!

Croatia Predicted Lineup: Subasic, Corluka, Lovren, Vida, Strinic, Modric, Rakitic, Rebic, Kramaric, Perisic, Mandzukic

France vs Belgium Betting Tips

One of the pre-tournament betting favourites against the tournament’s dark horse. France – Belgium promises to be a match for all football fans to look forward to with both line-ups having an array of talent at their disposal. Let’s start with Belgium and their golden generation. A lot of pressure was put on their team in the run up to this year’s tournament and so far they have duly delivered for their country. After a disappointing performance in the 2016 European Championships, going out against Wales, and a 2014 defeat against Argentina in the quarter finals, for many of this team it will feel as their last chance to win the World Cup. A feat that Belgium has never achieved before in its history, they currently match their best ever performance when they went out in the semi-finals in Mexico ’86.

They are the only team left who have won all this year’s World Cup games and have outscored any team, scoring 14 goals in 5 games (highest since 2002). Belgium also possess an incredible depth in their team with some of the Premier League’s best players such Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Thibaut Courtois and Kevin De Bruyne all hitting peak form. Do we even need to continue? 2-0 down against Japan, they came back in 15 minutes to score three goals. Outplayed Brazil in a tactical masterclass by Martinez in their first half and held on to secure their mouthwatering semi-final clash with France. This bunch are full of confidence and seem to be enjoying their moment in the spotlight.

France started this tournament in a structured and regimented manner with unimpressive wins against Australia and Peru whilst drawing against Denmark (probably the worst game in this World Cup). Facing Argentina they came to life and Mbappe proved on the world stage why he’s one of the biggest talents around by bagging two wonderful goals. We should remember that this was an Argentina side that were dreadful in the group stages and France were expected to win. In the quarter-finals they faced an organised Uruguay without their leader and goalscorer Edison Cavani. Another organised and structured performance by the French saw them win 2-0, however both sides had chances and if Uruguay were more efficient (on both sides of the pitch) it should have been a closer game.

For us, this seems like it could be a historic battle between the two European neighbours with both teams having an eye for goal. The momentum and confidence that the Belgium team will have after coming back from 2-o down and beating the tournament favourites will be huge. An early Belgium goal will allow them to play the rest of the game on their counter attacking abilities and blistering pace. We’re going for a Belgium win to set them up against England in the final.

France Predicted Lineup: Lloris, Pavard, Varane, Umtiti, Hernandez, Pogba, Kante, Matuidi, Griezmann, Mbappe, Giroud

Belgium Predicted Lineup: Courtois, Alderweireld, Kompany, Vertonghen, Chadli, Carrasco, Witsel, Fellaini, De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku

France vs Belgium Predictions

Correct score: France 1 – 2 Belgium

Recommended bet: Belgium to win

First goalscorer: Kevin De Bruyne

Key Stats

  • This is only Belgium’s second appearance in the World Cup semi-finals
  • Belgium are unbeaten in their last 24 matches in all competitions, winning 19 and drawing five.
  • France have lost just one of their last 13 games in the knockout rounds of the World Cup (excluding shootouts)
  • Overall, this will be the 74th game between France and Belgium. France have won 24 times to Belgium’s 30 (19 draws).
